Programmer | Campaign Project Director | Election Administration Research Fellow
Programmer, Data and Technology Team
Responsibilities:
- Develop web tools for a variety of NOI projects
- Redesign and maintain project websites
- Manage volunteer programmers
- Assist with the Voting Information Project (a collaboration with Google and Pew):
- Develop polling location lookup and visualization tools
- Develop APIs
- Assist with outreach and development of promotional materials
- Solicit additional venues for distribution of VIP data and tools
- Develop controls for monitoring status of VIP data feeds
Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of political data
- 1+ yrs database management experience
- 1+ yrs Rails/Ruby programming experience (or equivalent)
- 3+ yrs programming experience
- Familiarity with
- XML, JSON, other data standards
- EC2 and other cloud services
- REST concepts
- Comfortable in a Linux environment

Project Director, Campaign Leadership Training
The New Organizing Institute (NOI) is seeking a Project Director to join its team, effective immediately. This position will manage our new “Campaign Leadership Training” project, and will work directly with the Organizing Director.
Responsibilities:
- Create a vision for developing a new generation of campaign leadership trained in best practices across organizing, finance, communications, new media & data
- Develop a robust multi-media training program to deliver our curriculum for campaign leadership
- Expand NOI’s BootCamp training program for entry-level campaign staff
- Manage the day-to-day aspects of the program, including building political relationships, promoting the program, recruiting attendees, and setting up a clear application/acceptance and follow-through process for trainees
- Recruit and prepare a skilled training team to deliver coherent, dynamic face-to-face trainings and follow-up webinar series
- Work with both the Organizing Director and Data/Technology Director to set up clear systems for tracking and evaluating program data

- Experience working on different level races (local, state, national) and issue organizing
- Familiarity with the complexity of running an integrated campaign

- Solid writing & speaking skills
- Ability to think creatively about developing online resources and follow-through support systems for training participants
It is imperative that applicants for this position have senior-level experience on electoral campaigns. It is also imperative that applicants for this position have experience managing staff, whether on campaigns or in organizations.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include health (medical, dental, vision), paid vacation, and a collaborative working environment. There will be some weekend travel involved with this position.

Election Administration Research Fellow
Location: Washington, DC
The New Organizing Institute (NOI) is seeking a full-time three-month research fellow to assist with election administration projects. NOI's Data and Technology team works to make voting information openly available in multiple data formats and the team seeks a highly detail-oriented, dedicated research fellow to work on these projects.
NOI is a progressive organization that builds capacity and sophistication in the progressive movement in the areas of technology and new media, especially as they relate to organizing. NOI offers numerous trainings for progressive practitioners, engages in data research, and coordinates with a wide range of progressive partners to leverage common interests in the improvement of technology options in the field.
While the fellow may be asked to occasionally support other projects, s/he will primarily engage in voting information research.
Responsibilities:
- Research laws and practices of election administration across the United States
- Organize dissemination of research and format results, making it easy to access within NOI
- Format research in database
- Write and edit research summaries
- Build relationships with non-profits and election officials to accomplish research.
Qualifications:
- Nearly obsessive attention to detail
- Ability to organize non-centralized, non-standard information into a coherent format
- Basic knowledge of American politics and elections.
- Demonstrated research experience
- Excellent writing skills, both formal and informal.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly by telephone
- Experience with political data, election reform, or election administration a plus.
Salary: $4000 per month
