NOI Trainings
About NOI Trainings:
The New Organizing Institute's trainings are more than just a space where ideas and skills are conveyed to a group of participants. The curriculum, methods, and practices of the training have been developed not only to equip participants with useful tools, but also to activate them as leaders and organizers capable of winning real campaigns. This is done by creating a space where real campaigns can be developed and launched, where participants implicitly and explicitly learn essential practices of leadership, get a chance to critically engage with the material through practice, and where each participant is met where they are as organizers and learners.
We offer:
-Workshops-2-day skill sessions
-Bootcamps-Tailored Training Programs
-New Organizing University
Our training philosophy:
Train to Launch Campaigns
Trainings bring leaders together to not only learn new skills, but also to figure out how to use those skills to create real change in the world. Before putting together a training, overall campaign and organizational goals need to be considered, as well as the competencies that are needed to help reach those goals. Trainings should work to launch organizers and leaders into active campaigns with clear goals, a clear timeline and follow up support.
Model Leadership
Participants get their first clues about running effective teams and trainings from the training team! If you model good leadership yourself, you will set a positive tone for not only the remainder of the workshop or training, but also for the teamwork they will engage in during practices and actual campaigns.
Support learning through action, practice, and reflection
Effective trainings build a relationship between participants and the material you are teaching. This means more interaction between participants and fewer lectures. At least 50% of the training should be participants actively engaging with the material in pairs or small groups, instead of passively sitting through lectures. When participants have opportunities to practice skills, discuss the lesson together, and get feedback, they will leave having a better understanding of the material. This means they will feel more empowered to take the skills they learned and put them into practice after the training ends.
Appeal to the diversity of learners in the room
A good training appeals to all different learning styles. Not only does the material flow in a succinct way, but it should be taught in many different ways. All participants should have equal opportunity to engage with the material by appealing to visual, auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic learners.
