Get on the ball

If you set your time machine 8 years back, in October 2004 I was a field organizer for MoveOn. I was phonebanking 8 hours a day without fail.

The single most important piece of office equipment I had (yes, even trumping my cell phone) was my BALL. In fact, ever since that campaign I have used a fitness ball instead of an office chair.

Ergonomically correct (WAY better than folding metal chairs), comfortable, and less than $20, the ball is my favorite for phonebanking. Say goodbye to slouching, sadness, and numb tushies, and hello to chipper organizers, a dorky-looking office, and lots of smiles. Bonus: it's also a fun toy for any 2-year olds who wander in.

Sitting on the ball especially while phonebanking helps me stay present in what I'm doing (I can't just flop in a chair mindlessly). My coworkers may think it looks silly, but I'm getting great abs just from sitting there.

Word to the wise: if you HAPPEN to play dodgeball with your office chairs after hours, I will not be held responsible for any damage.  Take it outside, people, you need the fresh air anyway.
