A few months ago I wrote about the newest social media platform, Pinterest.  Here's an update on some of the cool ways we're seeing it used as an organizing tool.

  • Auction things. Yes, it has now been proven that Pinterest can in fact drive some fundraising! The most effective method I've seen so far has been people conducting an auction right on Pinterest. You create a bulletin board with all of the items up for auction and people bid by re-pinning the item they want to bid on with their bid in the comment section. (Note: Keep your audience in mind, the successful auctions seen on Pinterest thus far tied into the primary demographics of the platform.)

  • Create a "Pin-tition." Similar to other petition actions we see in online organizing, you can create a visual call to action with Pinterest. The most noticable one I've seen was the one directed at Pinterest itself to add Activism as a category. People sign on to the petition by repinning the pin.

  • Spread memes! Because it's a highly visual medium, Pinterest allows for the easy and rapid spread of memes -it's also really great for generating web traffic referral.

Have you seen something unique done on Pinterest? Share with us in the comments on the blog.
