New Media Bootcamp: A Comprehensive Training and TLC

My experience at New Media BootCamp was one that I will never forget. It was awesome for me in so many ways. I remember very vividly when I first received the forwarded email with the subject "Apply for this." I had no idea what that email would do for me.

I remember arriving in the hotel lobby to receive my credentials: a name badge, a binder, and a bag full of goodies that I didn't need but loved to have. I remember being one of the first ones to arrive and being nervous of whether or not I would do a good job or if my counterparts would like me. I was a 24-year-old young man going into a training feeling like an 11-year-old kid going to summer camp. One by one the hotel lobby filled with other BootCampers, who were to embark on the same journey that I was preparing for. We went up to our assigned rooms to sleep and get ready for what we were told would be a long week jam-packed with knowledge that would be essential to our future.

After the first day, I knew I was in the right place. We began with an exercise where we had to find one word that summed us up, one word that was the reason we do what we do. I chose 'faith' because that is what keeps me going. That 30 minute exercise helped me learn about myself, and much more about the lobby full of strangers that I had only caught a glimpse of the day before.

And just like that, I was hooked. I knew I was hooked because I was on the edge of my seat at that point. With each new presenter, I gained more insight. With each new group exercise, I gained more skill. I must say I was impressed with the experience as a whole. The coaches and facilitators made sure everything ran like clockwork and were literally at our beck and call, which created a dynamic that to this day has been unmatched by any training I have been a part of.

New Media BootCamp was an amazing experience for me because of the amount of tender love and care that the staff put in. With any training, you are guaranteed to leave with some type of knowledge, but what you are not guaranteed is a quality participant experience, and that is what I received at NOI's New Media BootCamp. I felt a sense of dedication to the cause and a sense of dedication to the people in the room that were seeking to learn from the experts and take what they've learned and change the world.

The presenters were awesome, the BootCampers were awesome, but the staff was amazing! I was so impressed that I said to myself, "I have got to find a way to work with these people," and that is exactly what I did. So now that I am on the opposite end of BootCamp, I think it is only right that I pay my experience forward!
