Meet the Most Valuable Organizers
I thought you might like to get a sampling of what's being said about this year's Most Valuable Organizer nominees.
"Well, do you call working for progressive change in Texas courage? I do. That's what Christina does every day."
"Jorge worked in a state that he has not ties too and treated it like he was fighting for his very own town."
"Alex is really willing to put his reputation on the line when it comes to challenging those in power."
"Mark Anthony does not let anything come from the organization until he is certain that it is the best piece of work that it can be."
All told, more than 30 nominees have received votes in the category, with more nominations rolling in. The best part of my day is opening the nomination forms and reading about the organizers who are making a difference in the field.
Did someone make change in your community this year? This is your chance to let that person know what the work meant to you. Think it's no big a deal? Here's the email I got from one of our nominees.
"When I first found out I was nominated for NOI's Organizer of the Year award, I was like - 'Sweet! NOI's Most Valuable Organizing Awards are like the VMA's for us progressive foot soldiers, and I've always wanted to win a Moon Man.' But it wasn't until I went to the awards homepage and saw all of the amazing nominees that it really hit me - this is a huge deal. These people are literally changing the world, and I couldn't be prouder to be listed among them."
And another nominee was equally excited:
"The moment I found out that I was nominated to be Most Valuable Organizer I thought it was a mistake...I was like, wow!?! ME?!!? I was just doing what the manual said -- makes me feel great about the sacrifices made by many other young Texans for our communities and our state!"
