In December, 2010, a diverse group of California data managers asked NOI to assemble an advanced data training which would cover not just hard skills, but the analytical and strategic planning of data management.
This idea -- to have an advanced data training (we've done Data BootCamps before) and to hold it on the other side of the country -- really appealed to us. So we took this initial idea and ran with it.
Since the process of creating a comprehensive curriculum and recruiting top-notch industry experts is exhausting and expensive, we made the decision to use this as an opportunity to have both a California and DC training. And for the first time in our history, we'll have an infrastructure to continue these trainings through 2012 at minimal cost.
With this challenge in mind, here are the details of our first Advanced Data trainings:
This week-long immersion training is designed to provide participants with the hard skills and critical thinking required to take on a leadership role in data management. This training is perfect for tech-savvy organizers looking to move into data management, current data managers looking to build a stronger portfolio, and current data practitioners looking for their next gig.
Here are the dates: California (July 24th - July 30th) Application extended to Sunday May 22nd! Washington DC (TBD) Rolling admissions - apply as soon as you can!

What You'll Learn You'll learn how to use the newest and latest cutting edge tools and technology to manipulate and utilize consumer, public, and user-entered data. Visit here to learn about all the data, tools, and knowledge we'll train on at the training.
Now, don't worry - it's okay if you're not already an expert - the goal of the training is to help you become one!
NOI will help everyone get up to speed by hosting a series of pre-requisite distance learning courses for Excel, Access, VAN, PDI, GIS, and any other necessary hard skills.
Why Apply If this training had been readily available to me as a field organizer, regional field director, or even when I started out as a data and reporting manager, I would have had quite a lot less stress in my life. Instead I spent days, not hours, discovering the answers to tough problems (like offline matching and iMacros). I wasted a lot of time, time that I could have spent organizing volunteers to target and speak to the right voters to win campaigns. You'll have a huge advantage if you participate in this training.
