I just got back from the Personal Democracy Forum conference in NYC, and I knew that I had to write about a talk given there that made me laugh a lot, think even more, and rise to my feet with applause at its conclusion.
The talk was "The Machine is (Changing) Us: YouTube Culture and the Politics of Authenicity", Kansas State University professor Michael Wesch's (@mwesch) reflection on society, video, social interaction and engagement. Wesch and his class at Kansas State are video anthropologists, providing an unbelievely valuable reflection on the YouTube society.
No official video yet (to my knowledge) but here are two clips! A warning - not great video quality but its worth it to check them out. Or, you can check out the last video on the page for his presentation of this material to the Library of Congress (h/t to Jordan Raynor, @JordanRaynor)
Update July 2: Wesch has shared his slides from the talk here
