Government's Growing Embrace of New Media

New media is everywhere - helping local state candidates to launch their first campaign, connecting you to the international movement to end genocide in Darfur, and helping you vote for the Red Cross to receive that big donation from Target.

It's continually exciting to see nonprofits, campaigns and advocacy groups embrace new media - and its with growing enthuasium that I watch government expand their use of new media and online tools as well.

Macon Phillips, White House New Media Director, gives viewers a quick 101 on new media's growing impact on government, through video, podcasts, facebook aps and pages, twitter, blogs and more. And, of course there's an ask - an ask for citizens to get involved in the conversation.

As Kyra said in her post yesterday, "access is a privilege, and with that privilege comes responsibility." Here's to hoping that you're watching the video above, and feeling the "fierce urgency of now" to accept that responsibility.
